Recycling unwanted kit helps clubs increase participation among young people while reducing the build-up of kit in landfill sites. TAG RUGBY TRUSTThe Lord’s Taverners teamed up with Tag Rugby Trust to benefit young people across the globe by providing them with the kit required to play rugby. The Tag Rugby Trust organises the introduction of a sustainable tag rugby club based in communities in the UK and developing countries. To establish the programme, volunteers visit the beneficiaries to provide training, structural advice and, importantly, deliver much needed kit that enables them to continue playing. To date, over 1,600 people have already benefitted from the partnership, with further kit donations expected to increase the scheme’s impact. So far, over 60 bags of 23kg recycled rugby kit have been delivered to projects in Romania, Zambia, Zimbabwe and a number of UK schools who volunteered on the projects. Shipments have also been sent to Uganda and Kenya, with young leaders who volunteer on projects receiving further kit to donate at their individual schools.Martin Hansford, Chairman of the Tag Rugby Trust, presented the Lord’s Taverners donated team strips to teachers and pupils at the tournament for Zimbabwe schools. He commented, “Identity, pride and the ability to look like a team are the key contributions that giving kit makes, and these drive positive behaviours in children. We find that school attendance improves when a child realises the need to go to school in order to be considered for the tag rugby team.”Partnerships with ICC, Tag Rugby, Cricket Without Boundaries, Project Front Foot and Farm4Life 14 12 MIMPACT REPORTONTHS ENDED SEPTEMBER 2015COMMUNITY CRICKET
