SENSORY EQUIPMENTIt is essential for children with disabilities to have access to suitable equipment that will help enhance their experience at school.A sensory room is a stimulating environment aimed at developing hand-eye coordination, motor skills, colour recognition, communication and sensory skills for children with sensory impairments. Schools catering for children with severe learning and physical disabilities, sensory impairments and autism have found that regular access to a sensory room or sensory equipment can make significant improvements on a child’s emotional health and enhance their learning experience. Sensory rooms are also used to calm overactive children. Working in partnership with BT and Experia, last year we installed five sensory rooms in Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools. Our partnership with BT, which began in 2010, will have seen 29 sensory rooms installed and over 18,000 people in the UK with profound disabilities benefit from them, by the end of 2016.608NEW BENEFICIARIES FROM EQUIPMENT INSTALLED IN 2015364,800SPORTING CHANCES CREATED FOR 2015 AND THE FUTUREOUTDOOR PLAY SPACES‘Play time’ is proven to improve children’s physical and mental health, help develop emotional responses and learning skills and improve basic numeracy and literacy.Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools require suitable outdoor play equipment to enable their pupils to enjoy the benefits of play time.We provide a range of outdoor play equipment to schools catering for children with severe learning and physical disabilities to meet their pupils’ needs. “Our children, staff and families are so grateful for this amazing space that has changed the daily lives of our children.”Nina Watts Headteacher at Birch Wood Area Special School4,8231,763,200NEW BENEFICIARIES FROM EQUIPMENT INSTALLED IN 2015SPORTING CHANCES CREATED FOR 2015 AND THE FUTURE12 MONTHS ENDED SEPTEMBER 2015IMPACT REPORT19DISABILITY PLAY SPACES
