WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALLThe Lord’s Taverners Junior League and National Junior Championships make significant contributions to the continued development of junior wheelchair basketball by creating multiple opportunities for young and aspiring athletes who use a wheelchair in the UK.Since 2008 the competitions have evolved to meet the needs of players, which has resulted in higher levels of participation within the sport. Over 300 young athletes took part in this year’s Junior League and National Junior Championships.A number of Lord’s Taverners disability sport ambassadors were picked for the Great Britain Men’s and Women’s wheelchair basketball teams in the 2015 European Championships. The women’s team, which featured ambassadors Amy Conroy, Judith Hamer and Laurie Williams, won bronze and the men’s team, including ambassadors Harry Brown, Kyle Marsh and Lee Manning, won the European title for the third consecutive year. All six have received a sports wheelchair from the Lord’s Taverners and their performances in the championships mean that they are all in with a great chance of heading to the Rio 2016 Paralympics.ON COURT SUCCESS “The Lord’s Taverners changes lives as the tournament helps create life-long memories for each individual who has the opportunity to take part.”Josie Chichockyj Head Coach of North West at the National Junior Championships12 MONTHS ENDED SEPTEMBER 2015IMPACT REPORT23SPORTS WHEELCHAIRS
